More wallpaper

So I posted awhile back about how much I adore Cole and Sons "Woods" wallpaper. It's just stunning. But when I was perusing the Door Sixteen blog this morning, I fell in love with another design, "Berry Black," from Danish company Ferm Living.

Check out Anna's gorgeous dressing room decked out in the stuff. The company's website has some other great finds. They're all just so rich and intricate. I really don't think of myself as a wallpaper person and I definitely don't have plans to use a lot of it in the house (not a fan of each room having its own texture and color scheme...am going for coherence and simplicity). But browsing is fun.

And how cute are these kids' rooms?

Hey, I commented before. My wife and I are building in Ferrisburg. Definitely fun wallpaper, my 15 month son would love walls of trucks I bet! But I think we're more paint people too. Btw, have you heard of the recycled paint you can get at Recycle North? Supposed to be a good deal, but prob not non-VOC like your choice.

You commented b/4 about the tax credit, which we are also banking on. Have you discovered the link above? I feel like a moron, I can't paste it into this comment, oh well. Anyway, FAQ #13 seems to answer our question, but I wonder who determines actual 'move in date" and how does the IRS know that?

Two more 'process' questions for you. How do you two decide what to post on the blog and who does it more? As for each of you making decisions, how have you found that process? Does one of you do more of the research, another more spontaneous? I'm just curious, as my wife and I have been all over the map, plus I'm familiar with the MBTI personality instrument so it's fascinating to me how any person people makes decisions, yet alone a couple working together to spend probably the most money they ever will by making a gazillion decisions together on such a huge project. Take care

Hey Tim!

I think I've heard of that recycled paint...is it called "Local Color?" I honestly haven't looked into it--it would be a great option if it was no-VOC. Someone mentioned another good alternative to AFM Safecoat called Mythic paint. Have you come across that? Some say it coats better than Safecoat. I'm going to do some digging before we purchase. (And I'm still anxious to use a bit of wallpaper somewhere...just haven't decided where yet!)

So I didn't see the link re: the tax credit. My understanding of the law is that you have to have a certificate of occupancy dated prior to Dec. 1, 2009. In our case, that certificate would be granted by the town of Williston. I don't know if it's the same process in other towns. I'm assuming we'll have to submit a copy of our dated certificate of occupancy with our tax return next spring (?)

Good question about posting on the blog. That would be me :) Ryan gives me ideas for things and is definitely the creative force in our family. But I do all of the writing. As for decisions, all of those are made jointly. We've actually done pretty well with that. We'll see if it continues as we move into actual construction. So if I post something on the blog like, "We're only using AFM Safecoat paint," it's because Ryan and I have talked about it and come to that decision jointly. We've definitely had our lively debates (over flooring, for instance) but tend to agree on most important things. And we have very similar tastes/styles...so that helps.

Check back with me in six months and see if we're still making decisions as easily as we have up to this point!

Best of luck with your project--please keep us posted!

Susan
